Planning your move

..........

• The cost of sea freight and road freight shipments are based on the total volume of your goods. This is calculated by multiplying the length, breadth and height of the items, to give a total volume in cubic feet.

• Air freight shipments are calculated on either the actual gross weight or the volume weight of the goods, whichever is greatest.

• Your Relocation Consultant will be able to accurately measure your goods at the time of the survey and provide a relocation quotation based on this measurement.

• It is important not to leave your search for an international relocation company until the last minute. Give yourself plenty of time to arrange relocation quotations, appoint a relocation company and finalize all of your arrangements.

• We recommend you make contact a minimum of twelve weeks prior to your planned moving date.

• No two relocations are the same, so QuiX Moving & Storage’s quotation will be specifically tailored to your individual requirements.
• But some things are always included:
◦ Supply of all new packing materials
◦ Packing of your household goods and personal effects by trained, experienced packers
◦ Preparation of an itemized inventory
◦ Collection from your home
◦ Crating/containerization and delivery to the terminal
◦ Preparation of all export documentation and all import documentation for the completion of Customs and Agricultural Clearances
◦ Payment of terminal charges
◦ Delivery direct to store/residence within a 50km radius of the destination port
◦ Unpacking and clearance of all waste materials on day of delivery, as required.
◦ The quotation will exclude any import duties or taxes due in various countries, quarantine examinations if ordered or storage if required.
Your Relocation Consultant will be happy to explain this to you during the survey.

• Ideally, you should confirm dates as soon as possible, as dates are often booked up well in advance.
• QuiX Moving & Storage will always aim to match the dates you require, but please keep in mind that some days (particularly Fridays) are busier and more expensive than others, so it will help if you can be flexible.

• QuiX Moving & Storage has a network of Agents across the Globe. QuiX Moving & Storage can take up an assignment in any part of the world.
• During a relocation, the QuiX Moving & Storage/Agents office at origin and at your destination continuously share important information in order to ensure the relocation is a success.
• All commitments made prior to departure will be carried out by dedicated QuiX Moving & Storage staff at the other end of the move.

• QuiX Moving & Storage has earned ISO certification in the majority of its worldwide locations.

• While QuiX Moving & Storage’s professional crews will always securely pack your belongings, it is important to remember that your goods will be traveling by ship, plane, truck or other mode of transport—each of which carries inherent risks.
• For your peace of mind, we offer QuiX Moving & Storage Care, transit insurance that provides full replacement cost coverage on a door-to-door, on an all-risks basis.
• As well as offering lump sum or full detailed inventory options, additional protection is available to cover pairs and sets, electrical and mechanical derangement and damage through mold and mildew.

• QuiX Moving & Storage ‘s Relocation Planner contains plenty of helpful hints to prepare for your relocation and will be left with you at the time of your survey.

• QuiX Moving & Storage’s packing teams will expertly pack and wrap your goods ready for shipment.
• All packers are fully trained and will make sure your possessions are well-protected and perfectly safe throughout the entire process of your relocation.
• At destination we will unpack your goods and dispose of any debris on delivery day at your new residence.
• The crew uses a color-labeling system at origin and destination to match packages with rooms. Color-coded cards, hung on doors at the destination residence, are matched to like-colored stickers on cartons, simplifying the delivery and unpacking process.

• For security reasons, many countries no longer accept shipments that are packed by the owner.
• In addition, any damage incurred to items you packed yourself may not be covered by transit insurance.
• We strongly advise that you let QuiX Moving & Storage pack all of your household items and personal effects. All QuiX Moving & Storage crews are professionally trained and have years of experience packing people’s precious belongings.

• If you have any of the original cartons and packing materials for your appliances or other household items, make sure that you inform your Crew Supervisor. He or she will inspect the materials to determine whether your items will be safer using these or our own specialized materials.

• All of QuiX Moving & Storage’s worldwide facilities are linked by a common communication and operating network.
• This technological investment means that before you arrive at your destination, the local QuiX Moving & Storage office will already have up-to-date information on your relocation.

• Before you depart, your QuiX Moving & Storage will give you the contact details for your coordinator at the QuiX Moving & Storage office where you’re moving to, along with your shipment details and the estimated date of arrival.
• When you arrive in your new city, you will be contacted by the local QuiX Moving & Storage office who will coordinate the inbound clearance, confirm the status of the goods, organize a date for delivery and discuss any storage requirements.
• Will I have to be in the destination country for my possessions to clear customs?
• Many countries do require you to be present in order for your goods to clear customs, but different rules apply in each country.
• Your Relocation Consultant will be able to confirm the regulations for the country you are relocating to.

MOVING CHECKLIST

LEARN TO LOVE YOUR LISTS

Forgetful, chaotic, or just plain preoccupied? Everyone can use a helpful list when it comes to moving home. We’ve developed this one from our years of experience, and though you’ll probably want to add something, it’s a good place to start. A few helpful hints:

• Post Office (for mail redirection)
• Financial institutions (to transfer and close accounts)
• Electoral registrar
• Taxation department
• Leasing company
• Insurance company (to transfer or terminate household insurance)
• Life insurance company
• Car insurance company
• Health insurance company
• School principal (to receive a letter regarding the status of your children in school)
• Shops and stores where you have charge accounts
• Relatives, friends and regular correspondents
• Club memberships
• Publications you subscribe to
• Doctor(s) and dentist (to obtain copies of your records)
• Your lawyer
• Your place of worship.

• Gas
• Water
• Electricity
• Telephone
• Cable Television
• Newspaper/Publication Delivery
• Internet Subscription.

• Defrosted your refrigerator/freezer and drained all water hoses
• Disconnected your washing machine and drained water
• Checked with manufacturer to ensure all major appliances are correctly prepared for moving
• Emptied all gas cylinders (first verify if they may be shipped to your destination)
• Arranged for electricity and gas companies to disconnect any fittings from the supply
• Dispose of items you do not wish to take with you
• Returned books, videos, etc…
• Removed your own fixtures and fittings from walls
• Put important items such as passports and tickets in your personal luggage so they are not accidentally packed
• Arranged for someone to look after your children on the packing days (this can be a stressful time for them)
• Washed thoroughly any items that may be of interest to quarantine (i.e, mowers, garden tools, golf equipment, bicycles, etc.).
• Dangerous Goods

• Ammunition
• New or partially used cans of paint
• Linseed oil
• Bleach products
• Gas cylinders, turpentine (unless emptied)
• Kerosene
• Petrol
• Cleaning fluids
• Aerosols (any kinds)
• Vegetable oils
• Chemical sets.

• Don’t forget to detail any high value items (e.g. antiques, furs, paintings) in your transit protection declaration—a separate valued list is requested
• Don’t put breakables in drawers
• Don’t put liquid in drawers (sauce bottles, perfumes, etc.)
• Don’t overload furniture with too many items (in drawers)
• Don’t store perishable foods such as cereals, flours, etc.
• Don’t polish your furniture prior to your move. Polishing surfaces can cause furniture to condensate when wrapped
• Don’t store or transport jewelry, money, legal documents, taxation papers, insurance policies or other high value/irreplaceable articles (keep these items with you)
• Don’t forget to check your home for any belongings the packing crew may have missed—before they leave.

• Anything left behind in the attic, garden, garage or basement?
• No clothes at the dry cleaners, shoes at shoe repair shops, sporting goods in lockers at clubs/schools?
• Are the water heater, main power and gas taps turned off?
• If possible, turn off air conditioners and use them only when necessary during the packing. Furniture kept in a constantly cooled climate may condensate when suddenly exposed to hot air. Allowing your furniture to adapt to the warm air can be helpful in eliminating moisture problems during transit
• Pack your suitcases and move them (together with your valuables, passports, and tickets) to a safe place, such as a trusted neighbor’s home. This will prevent them from being accidentally packed with your goods
• Put your personal telephone and address book with your carry-on luggage for the flight. You may want to get in touch with people later
• Dispose of all remaining flammables, dangerous, or hazardous materials. Throw or give away bottles of nail polish, and liquids in glass bottles
• Are your windows and doors locked? Old house keys surrendered?
All done? Get a good night’s rest!
